Agile Principles

Reflection and adjustment

“Reflection and adjustment” is one of the 12 agile principles included in the Agile Manifesto.

It stands for continuous team reflection to become more effective, evolving and adjusting behaviors accordingly, and having an agile mindset. It is probably the most important principle, meaning communication and interaction of human beings with a strong and established feedback culture.

„Feedback is the breakfast for champions”: This statement attributed to Ken Blanchard sums up one of the most important leadership instruments we are aware of. Feedback is a real gift, where the recipients decide by themselves whether to follow the proposed suggestions in full or partly.

Feedback uses a specific situation as a starting point of the conversation (as “soonish” as possible) and is an evaluation/assessment of behaviors. It is a methodical approach; however, it should not be an assessment of the human being but an essential development opportunity, delivered in a respectful and mature way.

Feedback as a leadership instrument can be applied at all levels within the company. Anyone can give feedback to anyone. Feedback helps humans to exploit their potential, illuminate the unknown parts of their personality and reduce blind spots. Feedback is crucial for improving someone else’s performance and above all enables behavioral changes. In addition, feedback allows praising and strengthening existing behaviors.

The STAGILE® framework by ALEAS uses feedback sessions and retrospectives as an essential ingredient for successful agile high-performance teams. Our STAGILE® coaches ensure that our customers are supported on the way to developing an agile mindset within the team at a practicable and high level.
